Aditya Roy Kapur, who is still loved for his romantic musical Aashiqui 2 (2013), seems to be taking a 180-degree turn with his next film Om: The Battle Within. The actor who will be seen in an action-packed avatar has worked quite hard on this one.

“For me, this is definitely a new chapter in my career. I’ve grown up watching action films and this is the first time I’m doing one. The first success that I found was in romance so I ended up doing a lot of romance but action is always something which is close to my heart and I wanted to do it. I just wanted someone to see that in me and I’m so happy that Shariq Patel [Zee Studios CEO] and Ahmed Khan and director Kapil Verma saw the potential in me to pull out an out-and-out action film.”

Talking about his process, Aditya said, “In this film, the challenge was to learn something new. It was a three to four-month process. I wanted to learn action since I’d never done it before. So, I did four months of martial arts and bodybuilding. It was two hours of action during the day and two hours of weight training at night. Then, in the middle of the day, we used to meet for two hours to read the script.”

Kapur also revealed that he’s grown up watching action stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme. “I’ve seen their entire filmographies, even their bad films,” he laughed.

The film is set to be released on 1 July.
