The fate of Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s Samrat Prithviraj was sealed on its first weekend itself when the historical epic managed to make only around Rs40 crore nett. The Akshay Kumar-starrer's collections saw a downward spiral in the following week.
Samrat Prithviraj review: A predictable and boring piece of propaganda
Samrat Prithviraj, which made only Rs5 crore on Monday, earned Rs2.50 crore on Thursday [yesterday], according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The grand total of the period film, which also stars Sonu Sood, Manushi Chhillar and Sanjay Dutt, currently stands at a paltry Rs54.75 crore. According to trade sources, Samrat Prithviraj was on a budget of over Rs200 crore.
This is Akshay’s second unsuccessful film in a row after the action-comedy Bachchhan Paandey (2022).
Meanwhile, Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 continues to fare even in its third week in which it earned Rs19.90 crore. The Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer has minted Rs159.91 crore so far. The film's predecessor, Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), starred Akshay.
