There is something about folk songs that lingers in the mind long after the song is over. ‘Saari Raat’ from the upcoming Punjabi-language film Bajre Da Sitta (2022) is one such number, sung beautifully by Jyotica Tangri with music direction by Jaidev Kumar.

The film in many ways seems to pay tribute to the rich folk musical heritage of Punjab as the title of the film itself is taken from a famous Punjabi folk song. The story of two young women who are blessed with beautiful voices and discovered by the owner of a record company, the film takes us to a time when it was considered disreputable for girls from 'good' families to become professional singers. As a result, the women face the ire of the community and the consequences that follow.

A song of longing, ‘Saari Raat’ expresses the state of mind of the lover waiting for the beloved. In the video, Tania is singing the song almost absent-mindedly, as we see the romance blooming between her and Ammy Virk, whom she marries in the film.

Virk follows Tania, trying to get her attention, as she walks with her friends. Tania plays an innocent, charming, talented woman who loves to sing.

Bajre Da Sitta, written and directed by Jass Grewal, is set to be released in theatres on 15 July. Watch the song 'Saari Raat' below and let us know if it makes you want to watch this movie.
