Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1

The makers of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 aka PS1 have added to the anticipation for the film by releasing new character posters of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha Krishnan.

Rai Bachchan plays Nandini, the queen of Pazhuvoor. Going by the description of her character by the producers Lyca Productions, it seems she is eager to take revenge for something. Despite that, her expression is quite calm and her orange-coloured costume is pleasing to the eyes. “Vengeance has a beautiful face! Meet Nandini, the queen of Pazhuvoor!” said the tweet by the producers while describing Nandini.

PS1 will see Trisha essay the character of princess Kundavai. Lyca Productions describes her character thus: “In a world of men, a woman of courage. Presenting Princess Kundavai!” The actress has a slight but pleasing smile. In keeping with the theme of the movie, she, too, is seen in an attire of the same colour.

The artwork of a war at the bottom of both posters not only makes them look more appealing, but also raises expectation of watching the film on the big screen.

PS1 also stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram Subramaniam, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala. The music has been composed by AR Rahman.

The film is based on the Chola dynasty that ruled southern India for centuries starting from 300 BCE.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 will be released in theatres in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on 30 September.
