Filmmaker Rohan Sippy has been quite active on the OTT front. After creating the mystery thriller Aranyak, starring Raveena Tandon, and directing the recent series Mithya with Huma Qureshi, the filmmaker is now looking to explore the genre of comedy.
Sippy is set to collaborate with Saurabh Varma, Utpaal Acharya's new-age content studio Content Engineers and Pankaj Sudheer Mishra's Triyambh Entertainment and Media (TEAM) to bring situational comedies to Indian OTT platforms.
Sippy believes that sitcoms haven’t been adequately represented on OTT platforms, especially when it comes to Indian content. "The potpourri of diverse genres makes for interesting viewing, but sometimes, I, as an audience, crave good light-hearted content, rooted in our country and culture that can resonate with audiences worldwide. This association is a step in that direction," he said.
Filmmaker Saurabh Varma, chief creative officer of Content Engineers, admits that they want to bring back the era of sitcoms like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi or Dekh Bhai Dekh but with content that is set in today’s world and will cater to the youth and family audiences.
Utpaal Acharya, CEO, Content Engineers, is glad to have found synergy with Sippy and Pankaj Sudheer Mishra's TEAM and revealed that they have already begun working on the first production.
