Box office: Shamshera falls flat after one week, Ek Villain Returns has a fair start

After earning Rs11 crore on Sunday, director Karan Malhotra’s action-adventure flick Shamshera saw a major fall on its first Monday, collecting a mere Rs2.85 crore nett.

The downward trend of the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer showed no sign of abating, with the film finally reaching Rs1.50 crore on the last day of its first week yesterday, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
As per trade sources, Shamshera was made at a big budget of Rs150-160 crore. Right now, the film’s grand total is Rs39.85 crore. This is yet another flop for the film’s production house Yash Raj Films after Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021), Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) and Samrat Prithviraj (2022).

Meanwhile, Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns, the sequel to the successful action thriller Ek Villain (2014), had a fair start in the first half of its opening day today. Starring John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani, the film will bring much respite to the Hindi film industry if it does well at the box office.
