Anuja Sathe and Neha Chauhan are the new entrants in the second season of SonyLIV’s political drama Maharani. Directed by Ravindra Gautam and created by Subhash Kapoor, the show stars Huma Qureshi and Sohum Shah and it revolves around the political situation in Bihar in the days of yore.
Sathe plays Kirti Singh, a confidante of Bheema Bharti (Shah). “I have always been very lucky when it comes to roles,” she said in a statement. “Keeping the trend alive, the audience will see me in a new avatar in this show. Kirti is totally opposite to how I am in real life, so it was an exciting and fulfilling experience for me as an actor. I had to be convincing while portraying the various shades of my character. The entire cast and crew have been very supportive, and I had a great time working with all of them.”
Sathe rose to prominence with the MX Player show Ek Thi Begum. She played a gangster’s wife who sets off to avenge her husband’s murder.
Chauhan will be playing Kalpana Kaul, a suave and ambitious woman who runs a political consultancy firm. “I have been a big fan of the show since the first season, so it feels great to join such a stellar cast and work with the wonderful Subhash Kapoor sir,” she said while speaking about her role. “My character will take things up a notch and catalyse plot twists that will unfold this season. I have never done anything like this before and am excited to see the audience’s reaction.”
Chauhan was last seen in SonyLIV’s highly acclaimed series Rocket Boys (2022). She played Kamla Chaudhary, who was close to the character of Vikram Sarabhai, played by Ishwak Singh.
The makers recently released a short scene from the second season of Maharani. It showed Shah's character slamming his wife Rani Bharti (Qureshi) while giving a speech. Rani, on the other hand, doesn't get affected by this.
