Shubham Yogi’s Kacchey Limbu and Shekhar Kapur’s What's Love Got To Do With It? will have their world premieres at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month. Both films will be screened as part of the Gala Presentations programme at the event.
Produced by Jio Studios and Mango People Media, Kacchey Limbu is Yogi’s first feature and a coming-of-age film revolving around two siblings. The Hindi film, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Pranjal Khandhdiya and Neha Anand, stars Radhika Madan, Rajat Barmecha and Ayush Mehra. The film is expected to be released in India later this year.

Madan plays Aditi, a wilful young woman who is in the race to fulfil the dreams imposed on her by everyone and is at the receiving end each time. She decides to take matters into her own hands to prove to her family, friends and especially her elder brother that being confused is not necessarily a bad thing.
The actress, who travelled to TIFF with the award-winning film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2019) in 2018, was elated to return with this film. “I am more than thrilled and grateful!” Madan shared in a statement. “I feel Toronto has been really lucky for me in the past and I have the fondest memories at the festival. I couldn’t have asked for a more fitting platform for the film’s showcase. Our film is Aditi’s journey of finding her own dream amidst the pressure of what everyone expects out of her. It’s about getting past the validation and discovering who you are at your own pace.”
Writer-director Shubham Yogi added, “We are extremely excited and honoured to have our film’s premiere at TIFF. I am grateful to Jio Studios and Mango People, who wholeheartedly supported me on this journey. Kacchey Limbu is a story that will connect with every Gen Z and touches upon the crossroad of dreams in life. We have aspired to capture the spirit of sibling love in a way that would strike a chord with everybody.”
Shekhar Kapur’s What's Love Got To Do With It? stars Lily James, Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson, Shabana Azmi, and Sajal Aly. The English film features James as a filmmaker Zoe who decides to document her best friend and neighbour Kaz, played by Latif, as he decides to go ahead with an arranged marriage.
