Reports have been doing rounds since last year about Anurag Kashyap remaking the epic Hollywood revenge action flick Kill Bill (2003) in Hindi. But the man himself has dismissed them as rumours.

“I am not remaking it,” said Kashyap at the trailer launch of his upcoming movie Dobaaraa. “I am not even making a homage to that film. It’s very simple. It is foolishness to remake a classic. When a film is already there as a classic, why will I remake it?”

The rumours about the supposed Kill Bill remake were fuelled further last year when Kashyap was seen wearing a T-shirt with a Kill Bill poster while posing with Kriti Sanon. It was speculated that Sanon would play Uma Thurman's character in the original.

Reacting to this, the filmmaker said, “If you had seen my T-shirt properly, it had, apart from Kill Bill, also Khoon Bhari Maang (1988). That film was made before Kill Bill.”

Speaking about what his next project, he said, “It is no use sharing now what am I making next. When I make it, you only decide what it is.”

The trailer of Dobaaraa makes it clear that the film belongs to the science-fiction genre. When Kashyap was asked why he tried his hand at this genre at this point in his career, he said, “I am very scared of science fiction. Today the world is one place. We watch a lot of content on OTT. If you are not like [Christopher] Nolan, why did you enter this genre [sci-fi]? If you can’t go to that level, don’t try. Just make your film.”

The fear somewhat has reduced for him now. “Apart from sci-fi, I am also scared of special effects,” he said. “It took very long for my fear to go away. It’s not that it’s completely gone now. If I was over-confident about my film, I would have predicted earlier only that it would go to various places. It is only after various people have given confidence about the film that today I am feeling that it’s impressive.”

Produced by Ektaa Kapoor's Cult Movies, Dobaaraa will be released in theatres on 19 August.
