Janhvi Kapoor plays a middle-class girl who is forced to become a drug peddler in Aanand L Rai’s production Good Luck Jerry. The actress has revealed how the director, Siddharth Sen, used an unusual method to get her in character.

“Jigar, Daddu, Siddharth sir, Timmy and the whole team used to play cards between the shots,” she said. “Whenever I wasn’t shooting with my [on-screen] mother and sister, I used to be the only girl amongst the cast at the shoot. I became an expert bluff player in card games. It was so much fun interacting with all of them.”

Kapoor later got to know that the whole thing was staged by the director. “Siddharth sir never made it obvious but he explained to me after we finished shooting for the movie that he needed to make a point to make sure that I was never comfortable and never at ease [on the sets],” she said.

“Since Jerry is a character who is out of her comfort zone and never feels like she is in a safe space, he never wanted me to feel like I was in a safe space. And I really think it didn’t just help me for the film but also on a personal level.”

The movie also stars Mita Vashisht, Sushant Singh, Deepak Dobriyal and Sahil Mehta.

Good Luck Jerry will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 29 July.
