Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt play a mother-daughter duo who come up with a dangerous solution for domestic abuse in Netflix's upcoming dark comedy thriller Darlings.

The two-minute trailer sees Alia, Shefali and Vijay Varma in a never-seen-before avatar. The trailer begins with Hamza Shaikh (Varma) declaring that he has decided to leave his wife Badrunissa (Alia Bhatt). In the very next clip, we see Badrunissa and her mother (Shah) decide to file a missing person complaint.

However, we soon find out that the duo itself had abducted Hamza. Badrunissa had been facing domestic violence at the hands of Humza and finally decided to give him the same treatment. "Enough defence, I will play offence now," Badrunissa says. They keep him hidden in their house with the help of Roshan Mathews' character.

The film is set in a small, conservative lower-middle-class neighbourhood of Mumbai. It will have an ample dose of dark humour along with an important message about domestic abuse. Shah and Bhatt look promising as characters who are not as innocent as they look.

Directed by Jasmeet K Reen, who makes her directorial debut in the film. The film has been co-produced by Alia Bhatt's production house, Eternal Sunshine Productions, and Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment.

Darlings is set to be streamed on Netflix from 5 August.
