The Punjabi feature Chhalla Mud Ke Nahi Aaya is all set to be released in theatres on 29 July. The film, which marks the directorial debut of actor Amrinder Gill, is inspired by true events and has been written by Amberdeep Singh.
Starring Amrinder Gill and Sargun Mehta, the film features Sydney Eberwein, Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol and Raj Kakra.
The film revolves around a rustic character played by Gill, who is to get married to Sargun Mehta. Gill decides to go overseas to find a good job and make a living. He makes the voyage and reaches a foreign land. As an immigrant, he starts working as a labourer.
Although there are other members of their community also engaged in work, the native population starts raising objections to their work being taken away by immigrants. Gill starts noticing the discrimination between them and the white workers and opposes it. Thus begins the fight for rights. There are glimpses of Gill and his friends working but also mingling with the families in a foreign land.
With an intriguing storyline, the period drama raises questions about labour rights which are pertinent even today, as the world over, immigrants are exploited and fight for their survival. Besides the historicity of the content, the production values seem impressive as Gill has taken care to portray the era in which the film is situated faithfully.
