In Jay Bodas’s Fakt Mahilao Maate (2022), Yash Soni plays 28-year-old Chintan Parikh, a young man besieged by the women in his life – his grandmother, his mother and sister, who are constantly squabbling. He thinks twice before settling down and bringing another woman into the mix to add to his woes.
Chintan, who works at a clothing store, goes to pray at the Ambaji Temple, and returns with a superpower he inadvertently gains through prayer – he can hear the thoughts of all women around him.
At first, he is panicked and overwhelmed, but as a voice-over from Amitabh Bachchan (who has a special cameo) reminds him, he can use this power to help others. He starts a service for men with dating trouble, letting them in on the thoughts of their significant others.
But will the problems of his own life and the women in it be solved? The film might hold more answers. The storyline of the Gujarat film is quite similar to the Hollywood film What Women Want (2000), starring Mel Gibson and directed by Nancy Myers.
Karan Bhanushali, Humayun Makrani and director Bodas have moulded the screenplay into a completely Gujarati setting, amping up the familial comedy and the bonds between a tightly knit family.
The film also stars Deeksha Joshi as Chintan’s possible life partner, Tarjanee Bhadla, Bhavini Jani, Kalpana Gagdekar, Chetan Daiya, Vaishakh Rathod, Deep Vaidya and Om Bhatt. The Gujarati feature is due to be released on 19 August theatrically.
