After Chaurya (2016), Wagherya (2018), Yuntum (2018) and Darling (2021), filmmaker Sameer Asha Patil is moving the devotional way with his upcoming film which will be based on one of the most revered saints of Maharashtra, Sant Dnyaneshwar.

Titled Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, the film will be produced by Ajay Thakur under his banner V Patka Film. The Marathi movie will also be released in 3D with “today’s advanced technology".

The makers have kept the name of the actor who will be playing the titular role under wraps. The rest of the cast will also be announced at a later date.

Dnyaneshwar is fondly referred to as ‘Mauli’ by his devotees. A statement from the makers read, “Though many producers and directors have tried to present the life of Mauli to the audience in their own way, in this film we will see a different look at Mauli and her unique relationship with God.”

Recently, Cinestaan.com exclusively reported about Marathi star Subodh Bhave playing Tukaram, another revered saint from Maharashtra, in director Aditya Om’s yet-untitled Hindi movie.
