The second season of Minus One, starring Aisha Ahmed and Ayush Mehra, has gone on the floors. The first season looked at the relationship between Ria (Ahmed) and Varun (Mehra) who stay together even after their break-up.
This new season will now look at the conflict between the former couple, stuck between holding on and letting go of their relationship. Produced by Writeous Studios, the six-episode series will encapsulate the relationship between two exes that spans several years, as they deal with the trials and tribulations of life and their careers and their expectations from each other.
Co-created by Sidhanta Mathur and Shubham Yogi, the second season has been written with Gauri Pandit. All episodes of the first season will be available exclusively on the Lionsgate Play app from 19 August.
Rohit Jain, managing director, South Asia and Networks, Emerging Markets Asia for Lionsgate, stated that Minus One was a fresh concept that encapsulated various dimensions of modern-day love. “Lionsgate Play has always strived to create a fantastic mix of premium content for its global and Indian audiences, and we are proud to add season 2 of Minus One to the original library, and we hope that it resonates with anyone and everyone,” he said.
Mrinalini Khanna, vice president of Originals, Lionsgate Play, shared, “Writeous and Shubham had such a unique insight into this couple and nearly a decade of their life together – the love, the fun, the anger and hurt and the inevitable mess and memories that ensue. And with the shared success of Feels like Home – we knew we wanted to make this with them.”
Co-creator Sidhanta Mathur added that they were happy to partner with the platform once again for the second season., “Minus One is an extremely relatable and funny show that beautifully captures a unique friendship, and through it tries to humanise the idea of an ex,” he explained. “We are also delighted to announce that we are filming a season 2, and with Lionsgate Play and especially Mrinalini Khanna's guidance, Shubham and I have been able to elevate the story to make it a way more evolved and nuanced relationship drama that will deal with the complexities of relationships through the characters of Varun and Riya. We really cannot wait for everyone to watch Minus One Season 2 as a lot of heart and hard work has gone into it.”
For Aisha Ahmed, playing Ria in the second season is special. The actress said, “We shot season one as a family, and now the shoot of the second season has begun, and it’s great to be back on the sets with the entire cast and crew. This season is all about how Riya and Varun deal with a lot more relationship challenges, heartbreak, love and more. Being Riya has been one of the greatest joys of my life, and I hope that people connect with her journey, as much as I have.”
Her co-star Mehra echoed her feelings and added, “Season 2 has been one of the most gruelling and rewarding experiences of my life as an actor and a person, and I couldn't have asked for a better support system than the team I work with every day. My director Yogi, producer Sid and Aisha have an eternal bond with each other. This season we bring a fresh lens to the idea of love, friendship and everything in between. The emotions and bond of both Ria and Varun are real and relatable and I’m sure will be loved by all our fans.”
