Bhotbhoti trailer: Enchanting story about the clash between reality and dreams

Tathagata Mukherjee’s upcoming film Bhotbhoti (2022) is the story of a boy who believes in an underwater fairy tale. As he seeks to explore the mysteries of the deeps, the trailer reveals the reality in his surroundings and the uncouth face of human civilization.

The imagination of a young man named Bhotbhoti (Rishav Basu) is captured by a slum called Jahajbosti. According to a legend, the people residing there arrived on a ship in days of yore. Bhotbhoti firmly believes that the princess of his dreams is a mermaid and pledges to find her one day. However, his obsession with the mythical creature (Bibriti Chatterjee) is not taken well by the rest of the people.

The people’s doubts regarding the mermaid eventually get to Bhotbhoti, but she reveals to him that the devil is hell-bent on destroying their world. The rest of the trailer, with its stunning visuals and a soul-stirring song, depicts a conflict between reality and dreams and proclaims that it takes time to achieve a revolution.

The trailer seems quite intriguing as it creates anticipation. The individual crisis of the characters as well as some sequences of violence promises an interesting spin on a fairytale narrative.

Bhotbhoti is due to be released theatrically on 11 August.
