A week away from the release on Shamshera (2022) and the makers have released the film’s title track which describes its protagonist. Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor plays a double role in the film – that of a father and son.

The song begins with a voice-over – ‘tujh mein Shamshera ka khoon hai, bebaak, nidar [you have the blood of Shamshera in you, carefree, fearless],’ and from there on, the song completely describes its protagonist and his fearless spirit. As the tagline in this song says, ‘A father’s legacy is the son’s destiny’ – he shall follow the footsteps of his father and do anything to save his tribe from atrocities of Shuddh Singh (Sanjay Dutt).

The track has some foot-thumping beats and also meaningful lyrics – both done by Mithoon. The song rendered by Sukhwinder Singh and Abhishek Nailwal is for sure high on energy and intensity. There are also some visuals of action sequences and fights along with heavy drama in the song.

At the film’s trailer launch, director Karan Malhotra had spoken about how important music is for a larger-than-life film like this. He had said, “It was an intense process because we were collaborating on a visual which needed much more than what an ordinary film would need. When we hear the dhol [a traditional drum] in the Ganpati festival, or any live instruments, such music had gone missing, and Shamshera for me was the opportunity to reinvent all of that in today’s times.”

True to what Malhotra had said, this title track has all the traditional Indian street music vibe. Shamshera, also starring Vaani Kapoor, is due to be released on 22 July.
