Who can imagine an innocent, naïve-looking girl voluntarily entering the seedy and dangerous world of drug smuggling? Well, that’s Jerry (Janhvi Kapoor) for you. The trailer of Good Luck Jerry begins with Kapoor's character amidst a group of drug smugglers seeking employment.
We then see her mother being diagnosed with lung cancer in a flashback, which explains the young woman's motives. But no, it doesn’t get emotional from here on. Good Luck Jerry seems to be a strangely fun-filled and thrilling ride.
The trailer has a lot of funny moments and one-liners which establish the tone of the film and raise expectations. Kapoor seems to be in form as she looks quite convincing in this never-seen-before avatar.
In parts, she reminds one of her mother, the late Sridevi, who played both the coy Anju as well as the street-smart Manju in the slapstick film ChaalBaaz (1989). One hopes Kapoor will be able to pull off the comedic bits smoothly as well as her mother.
The supporting cast of the film, which includes Deepak Dobriyal and Mita Vashisht, also is impressive.
It’s safe to say that the trailer of Good Luck Jerry definitely does its job. Produced by Aanand L Rai, Subaskaran and Mahaveer Jain, the film has been directed by first-time filmmaker Siddharth Sen.
The film will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 29 July.
