Actress Rhea Chakraborty has been charged by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for abetting the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's 'extreme drug addiction' by allegedly procuring drugs for the artiste.
The NCB filed a chargesheet on Wednesday that named Chakroborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and 33 others as accused in the case.
According to the chargesheet, Chakraborty received "several" deliveries of cannabis from the other people named on behalf of Rajput. She also allegedly made payments for the deliveries "at the instance of Showik and Rajput" between March and September 2020.
Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai on 14 June 2020, after which his family filed a complaint against Chakraborty, his girlfriend, for mentally harassing him and being responsible for his death.
The NCB took up the case when the illicit drugs angle emerged. The actress was granted bail by the Bombay high court in October 2020 after spending a month in jail in the alleged drug case related to the death of Rajput.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is still investigating Rajput's death.
