Director Ayan Mukherji has released a video which gives us an insight into his vision for this Brahmastra trilogy.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva trailer – Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan launch the Astraverse
Interestingly, this is India’s first planned trilogy and in Mukherji’s words, something like this which is born out of ancient inspiration and fits into the modern world hasn’t been done before.
Mukherji shared, “In these past few years, we’ve been building the foundation of the universe of cinema based on the concept of astras [supernatural weapons], the Astraverse. Brahmastra Part One is the first movie of this Astraverse. And it begins with the mystical image of a time in ancient India where a group of sages are performing deep meditation in the Himalayas. And for this, the sages are blessed with the light of the universe – brahm shakti. And from this brahm shakti, astras are born which have within them all the different energies found in nature — fire, wind, water and earth.”
The Brahmastra is lord of all the other astras and the sages vow to protect these astras. As per Mukherji, his world revolves around a ‘Brahmansh’ or secret society which exists in secret to protect these astras. “India, as it is today, is where the story of Brahmastra is set. This puts us in a unique position as nobody has done what we are doing with ancient Indian inspiration in the modern world.”
The first film in the franchise is called Shiva since it’s the name of a god who is personally very dear to the director.
The filmmaker's vision is quite impressive and will pique people’s interest in the film. Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, which also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is set to be released on 9 September.
