Chaupal OTT to release Punjabi-language women-centric content

The multi-regional platform has announced a film and series that delve into women’s experiences.

The multi-regional OTT [over-the-top] platform Chaupal has announced that in addition to its slate of crime thrillers and comedy offerings, it will be presenting women-centric content with stories that reflect our times and society. Two such offerings — the film Majajan Orchestra and web-series Shahi Majra — will be available soon on the platform.

Written by Rajneet Drall and directed by Navneet Drall, Majajan Orchestra stars actress Kanika Mann and examines women’s creativity. Highlighting the plight of women dancers in orchestra groups, the film revolves around the story of a young girl who misguidedly enters such a troupe and is unable to find her way out. It’s the story of her struggle, her fight to stand tall amidst the quagmire and to rediscover herself when faced with misery. The film will be released on Chaupal OTT at 11 am on July 17.

Shahi Majra will be released in August. Featuring Punjabi actress Nikeet Dhillon as the protagonist, the original series is a story of a young village girl who moves to a bigger city for educational purposes but loses track when faced with dazzling visions of urban life and finds herself in unfortunate circumstances. With a social message at its centre, the series is seen as being entertainment with a purpose.

Launched by Pitaara TV, Chaupal offers Punjabi, Haryanvi and Bhojpuri content.
