Hemant Dhome's Jhimma completes 50 days in theatres

The film, which was released on 19 November 2021, tells the story of seven women who discover themselves on a trip to London, England.

Hemant Dhome's Jhimma (2021), which revolves around seven women who discover themselves on a trip to London, has completed 50 days in theatres. This is a rare feat for a Marathi film, especially in light of the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra.

Jhimma review: Long-drawn but entertaining film that follows all the clichés of the genre

Apart from restrictions imposed by the state government due to the pandemic, the film faced tough competition from big-budget and highly anticipated films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 (2021) and 83 (2021). Despite all this, the Marathi film is still going strong and is being screened in more than 80 theatres.

According to makers, the film has made over Rs14 crore nett. The makers also shared a video on social media where the cast and director thanked the audience for its support.

Expressing his gratitude, Dhome said in a statement, "After many years, a Marathi film has run in theatres for so many days and after the lockdown, Jhimma became the first film to run in theatres across Maharashtra for fifty days in a row. I am definitely very happy and proud of this. The response to this film once again underscored how much the audience loves Marathi films and good subjects. You feel satisfied when you see the audience's reaction to your work. The credit for this huge success goes to the team and the of course the audience."

Produced by Crazy Few Films and Chalchitra Company, the film sees Suhas Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Sonalee Kulkarni, Nirmiti Sawant, Sayali Sanjeev, Mrinmayee Godbole and Suchitra Bandekar play characters who head to the UK in order to get away from it all. The tour is organized by a travel company headed by Kabir (Siddharth Chandekar). In fact, it is the maiden venture of his newly launched firm.
