The 20th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is set to be held from 15 to 23 January in a physical format.
Around 220 films from 70 countries will be screened in various categories such as the Asian Film Competition, Wide Angle, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Women Filmmakers and the Spiritual section.
The festival is organized by the Rainbow Film Society, which has been promoting a cine culture in Bangladesh since 1977.
PS Vinothraj’s Koozhangal (Pebbles) and Ranjith Sankar’s Sunny will compete in the Asian Film Competition section. The winner will be awarded 1,00,000 Bangladeshi taka. The international jury will also pick the Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script and Best Cinematographer from this section.
Rajni Basumatary’s Jwlwi: The Seed; Rajdeep Paul and Sarmistha Maiti’s Kalkokkho (House of Time); Rajaditya Banerjee’s Lost For Words, a Finno-India co-production; Baharul Islam’s The Seventh String; Sagar Puranik’s Dollu (The Drum); Biju Kumar Damodaran’s The Portraits; and Martin Prakkat’s Nayattu (The Hunt) are some of the other films selected from India.
Shefali Shah’s Someday, Aimee Baruah’s Semkhor and Supriya Suri’s Aruna Vasudev: Mother of Asian Cinema are part of the Women Filmmakers section.
Gaurav Madan’s Barah by Barah, Aneek Chaudhuri’s Jharokh (Ventilator), Amit Rai’s In Pursuit of Light and Prasun Chatterjee’s Dostojee (Two Friends) have been included in the Spiritual section.
