In the trailer of Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (2022), Tahir Raj Bhasin’s Vikrant declares that three things can ruin a man – money, power, and women. In Vikrant’s case, he has been pursued by Purva (Anchal Singh), the spoilt daughter of a powerful politician, Akhiraj Awasthi (Saurabh Shukla), since they were children. When she attempts to come between Vikrant and his ladylove Shikha (Shweta Tripathi Sharma), the lovers' hope of a future together is threatened.
While the teaser revolved around the romance between Vikrant and Shikha, the trailer highlights the menace Purva and her family pose to Vikrant. Her family only tolerates Vikrant because Purva desires him; she only wants him as she would any possession.
Vikrant knows he has to succumb in order to survive and he begins to think of ways to escape. The Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein trailer also unveils the character of Arunoday Singh who seems to be a hitman. Whether Vikrant or someone else hires him, it remains to be seen.
The trailer also includes scenes of the key characters being shot at close range, whether that actually happens or is just a figment of Vikrant’s fertile imagination will be known once the series is out.
Will Vikrant and Shikha’s love be able to thrive? Or will Purva have her way after all? The drama series Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, directed by Siddharth Sengupta, sets up an intriguing premise of a twisted love triangle. Bhasin and Tripathi enact their parts well as pawns in this power play, while Singh who played a bride with few options in Undekhi (2020), gets to tap into her dark side here.
The story has been written by Anahata Menon, with dialogues by Varun Badola. The Netflix series also features an ensemble cast including Brijendra Kala, Surya Sharma, Anant Joshi, Sunita Rajwar, Shashi Verma, Anjuman Saxena and Hetal Gada.
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein is due to be released on 14 January on Netflix.
