Sikandar Kher was seen last year in Rohit Shetty’s action drama Sooryavanshi (2021) and the second season of the acclaimed web-series Aarya. He has now signed up for a film based on the topic of surrogacy.

The as-yet-untitled film will mark the directorial debut of the successful writer duo Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal, better known as Siddharth-Garima. They have written films such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela (2013), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018) and Kabir Singh (2019). They also have Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, in the pipeline.

Monika Panwar, who is best known for her work in the web-series Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega, has been cast opposite Kher.

As per a note shared by the makers, Kher and Panwar have started preparing because the film's subject and their respective roles require a lot of research. Although the story is being kept under wraps, a note from the makers read, “The film deals with a topic which needs the expertise of talented and hard-working individuals.”

The last mainstream Hindi film that dealt with the issue of surrogacy was the Kriti Sanon-starrer Mimi (2021). The film is the official Hindi remake of the Marathi movie Mala Aai Vhaychay! (2011).
