The Hindi version of Sukumar’s Telugu movie Pushpa: The Rise made Rs20 crore in its second week. But since then the Allu Arjun-starrer has seen its numbers surge, scoring Rs15.25 crore nett in its third weekend, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
If the movie continues to hold well in the weekdays starting today, its third week collection may well surpass the second week's number, which is rare. In fact, it may even come close to its first week collection of Rs26.91 crore.
Along with a good word-of-mouth, the failure of Kabir Khan’s 83 and the lack of any fresh releases since 25 December seems to have worked in Pushpa’s favour.
After collecting Rs67.83 crore nett in the first week, the Ranveer Singh-starrer cricket movie could manage only Rs18.50 crore in its second weekend, taking its total tally to Rs86.33 crore. While the film has been doing well in metro centres like Mumbai, it has struggled in smaller centres.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood superhero film Spider-Man: No Way Home has continued its good form at the Indian box office by finishing its third weekend with a collection of Rs12.75 crore nett. By doing so, it has gone past the magical Rs200 crore mark, with Rs202.36 crore nett.
Both Pushpa and Spider-Man have been helped by the postponement of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey and they will benefit further this week as SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR has also been postponed.
