Actor John Abraham and wife Priya Runchal tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai today. The actor confirmed the diagnosis on Instagram, saying that despite being vaccinated twice, both had contracted the contagion.
John joined actress Mrunal Thakur and director Rahul Rawail, who confirmed their positive status yesterday, as the latest in a slew of film industry members to be infected in the new wave of the pandemic.
On Instagram Story, John wrote, "I came in contact 3 days ago with someone who I later learned had COVID. Priya and I have tested positive for COVID. We have been quarantined at home so we haven't been in contact with anyone else. We are both vaccinated & experiencing mild symptoms."
Jersey actress Thakur tested positive yesterday and took to Instagram to confirm her status. She wrote, "I have tested positive for COVID-19. As of today, I have mild symptoms but I'm feeling OK and have isolated myself. I am following the protocol given by my doctor and health professionals." She added, "If you have been in contact with me, request you to please, please get tested immediately. Stay safe everyone."
The actress's latest film, Jersey, opposite Shahid Kapoor, was due to be released in cinema halls on 31 December but was postponed in view of the shutdown of theatres in Delhi and the growing number of cases in the country.
Director Rawail also tested positive on Sunday. He confirmed this to the Press Trust of India news agency. The 77-year-old had released his book on the late Raj Kapoor on 14 December 2021.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora, Nora Fatehi, and Rhea and Anshula Kapoor have all tested positive in the past couple of weeks. Actor Vikram from the Tamil film industry has also tested positive for COVID-19.
The growing number of cases across the country has given rise to fears of a third wave. The government of Delhi has already ordered the shutting down of theatres, resulting in the postponement of Jersey and SS Rajamouli's magnum opus RRR.
