Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji and actress Parno Mittra have tested positive for COVID-19. On 1 January, Mukherji took to Twitter to inform his followers that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and was isolating himself. The National award-winning director also asked everyone who came in contact with him to get tested.

Mittra has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time. While contesting the West Bengal assembly election on a BJP ticket from the Baranagar seat in the North 24 Parganas district in April last year, the actress contracted the disease and had to refrain from casting her own vote.

On 2 January, the actress-politician tweeted that she had mild symptoms this time and had gone into isolation. Mittra also asked everyone who had come in contact with her to get tested.

On 1 January, singer Ujjaini Mukherjee posted on Facebook that she had contracted the virus and had a high fever. The singer had gone into isolation, in light of her symptoms, before her test results arrived.

To curb the spread of the virus, the West Bengal government has imposed restrictions as well as a night curfew. While schools and colleges will be shut from today, cinema halls, shopping malls and restaurants are only allowed to stay open till 10 pm while operating at 50 per cent capacity.
