Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi was supposed to be released in theatres on 18 February. But the makers have just announced that the Alia Bhatt-starrer will hit the screens on 25 February.

Produced by Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios, the film will see Bhatt play the titular madam of a brothel in Mumbai's Kamathipura locality. Gangubai Kathiawadi marks her maiden collaboration with Bhansali. The project happens to the filmmaker's tenth directorial venture in a span of 25 years.

The film also sees Ajay Devgn make a special cameo. The actor had teamed up with the filmmaker in the iconic Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which also starred Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Before its theatrical release, Gangubai Kathiawadi will have its premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, which begins on 10 February.

Bhansali had said in a statement last month, “The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been very close to my heart and me and my team have given it all to make this dream possible. We take pride and honour in showcasing our film at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.”
