Mistaken identity is one of the most overused devices in comedy films. Ankush Chaudhari and Siddharth Jadhav's upcoming comedy film Lochya Zaala Re, which is based on Suresh Jayaram's play Pati Sagle Uchapati, possesses this familiar element.
The trailer sees Chaudhari inviting his uncle (Sayaji Shinde) to Birmingham to meet his wife Pooja. But his arrival kicks off a string of lies and to avoid getting caught in their own web of deceit, Chaudhari and Jadhav have to keep adding to the deception. Soon Vijay Patkar also arrives, further complicating things, and now Vaidehi Parshuram has to play the role of wife to both Jadhav and Chaudhari.
The trailer makes it pretty clear that Lochya Zaala Re is a slapstick comedy but we have seen so many similar films that there is no novelty factor. Also, the jokes in the trailer don't land at all.
Comedy veterans Chaudhari and Jadhav have excellent comic timing, but for some reason, this trailer fails to capitalize on this. In the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, not one joke or scene elicits even a smirk.
Directed by Paritosh Painter and Ravi Adhikari, Lochya Zaala Re is set to be released in theatres on 4 February.
