Filmmaker Selvaraghavan yesterday announced that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Sharing the news in a statement posted on instagram, he urged all those who had been in close contact with him to get tested. Selvaraghavan also urged his fans to mask up and stay safe.

Best known for his collaboration with his brother Dhanush for films such as Pudhupettai (2006), Selvaraghavan has turned actor with the upcoming Tamil thriller, Saani Kaayidham.

Dhanush unveiled in November the first-look poster for the film starring Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan. Saani Kaayidham is tipped to be a crime thriller and the poster shows Keerthy and Selvaraghavan squatting as they look battered and bruised. It appears as though they have been nabbed by the police.

Dhanush took to Twitter to release the poster and wrote, ‘The most wanted ones.’ The film, to be directed by Arun Matheswaran, will see Keerthy and Selvaraghavan on the run after committing a major crime. This project marks Selvaraghavan’s debut as an actor in a full-length role and is slated to go on the floors soon and hit the screens next year.

Selvaraghavan, on the other hand, is set to reunite with his brother for Pudhupettai 2, a sequel to their own gangster drama Pudhupettai. Dhanush recently confirmed that the project is in the offing and that he is raring to commence work on it.  According to a recent report, Selvaraghavan is likely to also join hands with Dhanush to co-direct the latter’s yet-untitled second Tamil directorial project, for which shooting will resume soon.

According to a report on the movies website CinemaExpress.com, Dhanush has requested his brother to direct the period portion in his film. The portion is said to be set in the 15th century. Since Selvaraghavan has already made two period films — Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and Irandam Ulagam (2013) — Dhanush was keen to have him direct the portion in his film.
