Makers of RRR shortlist two possible release dates

The official Twitter handle of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR: Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (2022) announced on Friday that the makers had narrowed their choices down to two release dates: 18 March or 28 April.

RRR was earlier scheduled to be released on 7 January 2022. However, less than a week before the release, the makers postponed the film owing to the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

'If the pandemic situation in the country gets better and all theatres open up to operate at full capacity, we are ready to release the film on 18 March 2022. Otherwise, RRR will release on April 28 2022,' a statement from the producers said.

In RRR, Telugu stars NT Rama Rao, Jr, and Ram Charan share screen space for the first time. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s in pre-Independence India but based on the lives of two real heroes and well-known revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

Talking about the project, Rajamouli had said at the film’s launch in 2019: “This will be a fictional story on the lives of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. There are gaps in the lives of these legendary freedom fighters that we don’t know about. It is through this fictional story we would like to show what could have happened in their lives and what would have happened if they had met and bonded.”

The film, which will be released simultaneously in dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, also features Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani and Shriya Saran in important roles.
