Coronavirus update: Now, release of SS Rajamouli's RRR postponed due to rise in COVID cases

The film’s official Twitter handle announced yesterday that the release had been postponed. No new date has been given.

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR: Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (2022), which was scheduled to hit the screens worldwide on 7 January, has been postponed indefinitely due to the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases across the country.

The film’s official twitter handle announced yesterday that the release had been postponed. No new date has been set.

A tweet from the handle read: 'Keeping the best interests of all the involved parties in mind, we are forced to postpone our film. Our sincere thanks to all the fans and audience for their unconditional love.'

Several fans expressed their disappointment on Twitter at the postponement. The team had recently completed promoting the film across four cities.

In RRR, N T Rama Rao, Jr, shares screen space with Ram Charan for the first time. The film is a fictional story set in the pre-Independence era in 1920s India but is based on the lives of two real heroes and well-known revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

The film, which has been made in Telugu and dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, also stars Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani and Shriya Saran.
