The Kannada film Badava Rascal (2021), headlined by Daali Dhananjay, Amrutha Iyengar and Rangayana Raghu, will have its digital premiere on Voot Select on 26 January.

Directed by Shankar Guru, the romantic drama was released in theatres on 24 December 2021. The film features Tara, Sparsha Rekha, Nagabhushana, Poornachandra and Maasthi Upparahalli.

The film is a love story between a small-town boy Shankar (Dhananjay) and a rich politician’s daughter Sangeetha (Amrutha). Shankar, the son of an auto-driver, has great ambitions, but due to a tragic incident, he is separated from Sangeetha. According to the makers, Badava Rascal is peppered with love, emotions, comedy and grittiness and is replete with raw and hard-hitting imagery of the middle-class.

Speaking about the film, actor Daali Dhananjay said, “Badava Rascal will always be close to my heart for two reasons: it's a home production and the terrific team I got to work with. It is a story of love and survival which also highlights sensitive issues like poverty faced by the nation. The character of  Shankar changed my perspective towards life. His ambitions were limitless, despite the adversities in his life. His willingness to chase his dreams without giving up on love is inspiring."

He continued, “This film has a strong message for all the youngsters out there: Do not quit even if the path gets difficult. As Badava Rascal was a lockdown release, we experienced a slight drop in audience as people were cautious about stepping into theatres. With Voot on board, the viewership will proliferate.’’

Amrutha said that playing Sangeetha, who hails from an elite political family, was a unique experience. "She was narrow-minded and traditional. I had to develop that mindset to step into her shoes. To convincingly play such a character requires a deep understanding of the script, which our director had in a mind-blowing way. It made the entire process easy," the actress said.

Actor Rangayana Raghu said, “This film has deep learnings and morals for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed filming for it. Each character has a subtle flavour.”
