Arun Roy’s film 8/12 will be released on 26 January in theatres. Starring Kinjal Nanda, Arna Mukhopadhyay and Remo as the revolutionary trio Binoy Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta, the film is based on the historic Writers’ Building attack of 8 December 1930. 8/12 also features Saswata Chattterjee and Kharaj Mukherjee in crucial roles.

Speaking of the film's theatrical release on the 73rd Republic Day, producer Kan Singh Sodha, said, “8/12: Binay Badal Dinesh is a special film for us where we have paid homage to the national heroes. After a lot of contemplation and discussion we have decided to release the film on 26 January.”

The producer said the team was initially in doubt about the release date, given the present pandemic situation. But with the support of industry friends, the decision to release the film on Republic Day was made. “We want to pay our respects to Bengal's three bravehearts and also keep supporting the theatre community in every possible way,” Sodha said.

Directors Raj Chakraborty and Raajhorshee De, on the other hand, have postponed the release of their films Dharmajuddha and Abbar Kanchenjungha, respectively, due to the rising COVID-19 cases in West Bengal. The 27th Kolkata International Film Festival, which was slated to be held from 7 to 14 January, was also called off with no fresh date being set.
