Aditya Sarpotdar's zombie comedy Zombivli (2022) will now be released theatrically on Republic Day, 26 January.
The film, starring Ameya Wagh, Vaidehi Parashurami, Trupti Khamkar and Lalit Prabhakar, revolves around a zombie infestation.
The makers shared the new date for the film, advancing its release from 4 February 2022 set earlier.
Announced in 2020, the film is the first in this genre in Marathi. Also among the first Marathi films to go on the floor after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Zombivli was completed in 2020 itself, but its release has been delayed by the repeated shutdowns caused by the pandemic. The teaser for the film was released in February last year.
In May, following another delay, the producers said they were keen on a theatrical release for the film which "would be best experienced on the big screen".
The makers released a new promotional song, 'Angaat Aalaya', last month. featuring Siddharth Jadhav. In an exclusive interview, the actor praised Sarpotdar's attempt at the genre. Jadhav said, "We have seen zombies in a lot of English movies. This is the first time a zombie film has come out in Marathi. Aditya Sarpotdar has tried doing something new. There is a lot of interest in how this subject is treated."
