Putting to rest rumours about Lata Mangeshkar’s ill health, her spokesperson Anusha Srinivasan Iyer confirmed that the veteran singer is stable.

“Lata-di is stable,” Iyer reaffirmed in a media statement. “It is disturbing to see false news being circulated. Please note that Lata-didi is stable. Continues to be in ICU [intensive-care unit] under treatment of able doctors. Please pray for her quick return home.”

The 92-year-old singer tested positive for COVID-19 on 9 January with mild symptoms and was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in the ICU as a precaution.

Later in the week, it was revealed that she was showing signs of pneumonia and would remain under observation for 10 or 12 days.

Yesterday, associate professor Dr Pratit Samdani from the hospital told the Press Trust of India news agency, "She continues to be in the ICU and is under treatment.”

In 2019, the Bharat Ratna awardee had been admitted to Breach Candy hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia; she went home after a month.
