Digpal Lanjekar's historical action drama Pawankhind (2022) is now slated to be released in theatres on 18 February. The director shared the information on social media.

Featuring Chinmay Mandlekar, Ajay Purkar, Mrinal Kulkarni and Prajakta Mali, the film was earlier slated for release on 31 December 2021 and then again on 21 January 2022.

Lanjekar wrote on Twitter, "The new date for Pawankhind's theatrical release has been proclaimed."

The proclamation image posted with the tweet says, 'We always desired to showcase the courage of Baji Prabhu and his Bandal army on the big screen. But some things are not in our hands. The situation created by COVID is one such. Due to these unforeseeable circumstances, we are now showcasing our film, Pawankhind, in theatres on the eve of Shiv Jayanti.'

The film tracks the key battle at Ghodkhind (Horse Pass) during the siege of Panhala fort near Kolhapur in modern-day Maharashtra in 1660. The rearguard action and supreme sacrifice by Maratha general Baji Prabhu Deshpande and a small force of select warriors eventually led to Shivaji renaming the pass Pawankhind (Sacred Pass).

The film is Lanjekar's third in a series of action dramas from 17th century Maratha history. The director earlier made Farzand (2018) and Fatteshikast (2019), both of which were well received.

Pawankhind is produced by Almonds Creation and Chintamani Developers. Earlier titled Jungjauhar, it was first scheduled for release on 10 June, before being pushed to 31 December and then 21 January. Now, the film has a fresh release date: 18 February.
