Maaran motion poster: Dhanush wields a bloody pen in this action thriller

The adage 'the pen is mightier than the sword' takes on new meaning with Karthick Naren's motion poster for Maaran.

The Dhanush-led action thriller features the actor facing down a gang with just a pen as his weapon.

The film, the first collaboration between the director and the star, is produced by TG Thyagarajan and Sathya Jyothi Films. The makers confirmed that the film will be released directly on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform.

The motion poster was released on the occasion of Pongal festivities in Tamil Nadu. The first announcement of the film had coincided with the birthday of leading man Dhanush.

The intriguing short visual sets up the backdrop to the action film. With bodies strewn around a construction site, the camera moves upward and onward till it crosses an armed gang to focus on Dhanush. 

Looking intense and focused, the star seems to be armed with just a pen dripping blood. This lasting image adds to the intensity of the drama in the scene. 

Maaran will feature actress Malavika Mohanan opposite Dhanush, another first. The film has music by GV Prakash Kumar.

Dhanush was seen recently in Aanand L Rai's film Atrangi Re (2021) opposite Sara Ali Khan. That film was also streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 24 December 2021.

The actor has also signed on for the Russo Brothers' upcoming thriller The Gray Man, alongside Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana De Armas.
