The eighth edition of the Rajasthan International Film Festival (RIFF) is being organized by the RIFF Film Club from 25–30 March 2022 and will also celebrate Rajasthan Day.
Somendra Harsh, founder and festival director, said this year the Lifetime Achievement award will be conferred on writer, producer and director Chandrashekhar Narvekar, better known as N Chandra.
N Chandra began his career in cinema as a film editor. He was an editor's assistant on Sunil Dutt's Reshma Aur Shera (1971) in 1969 and worked as a clapper boy on Gulzar's Parichay (1972). He gradually grew as a film editor and assistant director, going on to make his directorial debut with the sleeper hit Ankush (1986), starring Nana Patekar.
Among his better known films are Pratighaat (1987), another sleeper hit starring Sujata Mehta, Tezaab (1988), the blockbuster hit that propelled Madhuri Dixit to stardom, and the action film Narasimha (1991) starring Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia.
N Chandra has been a member of the governing council of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune; as well as chairman of the jury for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India in 2010 and 2011. He also chaired the jury at the 67th National Film Awards 2019 (which were announced and presented last year).
N Chandra is scheduled to be presented the award on the RIFF Awards night on 30 March.
