The release of Raajhorshee De’s upcoming multi-starrer film Abbar Kanchenjungha has been postponed indefinitely.

The director shared a statement from the team of the film on Facebook, which explained that due to the surge of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic — which, incidentally, is particularly bad in West Bengal — the team has been forced to postpone the release of the film. It was earlier slated to be released on 11 February.

The statement conveyed that the new release date would be decided once the rising curve of COVID-19 cases dips and the situation heads back to a semblance of normalcy.

Captioning the photo statement, De added that Avijit Sen’s recent film Tonic (2021), starring Dev Adhikari and Paran Bandopadhyay, had proved that even in the current trying times, family-orientated stories rule the hearts of the audience.

Referring to Tonic's box-office success, De seemed hopeful that his own film Abbar Kanchenjungha, which is also the story of a family, will appeal to the audience.

Starring Kaushik Sen, Saswata Chatterjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Bidipta Chakraborty, Rahul Banerjee, Arpita Chatterjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, Richa Sharma and Devlina Kumar, Abbar Kanchenjungha is set in Darjeeling.

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Kolkata and in the film fraternity, producer-director Raj Chakraborty has also postponed the release of his film Dharmajuddha. The 27th Kolkata International Film Festival, which was supposed to be held from 7 to 14 January, has also been postponed.
