More than actors, OTT has given room to directors and scriptwriters, says Nadiya Moidu

Actress Nadiya Moidu believes the rise of OTT platforms has given more opportunities to screenwriters and directors than ever before. The actress is part of Amazon Prime Video's anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa, which has been premiered today.

Nadiya Moidu said, "I think more than actors, we have given room to directors and scriptwriters, who can say their stories directly."

Part of director Madhumita's segment Mouname Paarvayai, which also features Joju George, she said, "OTT just gives that larger viewership — it doesn't matter which language you are watching, of course... it’s a big comfort that you are watching in your own mother tongue. But at least people get exposed to different states, their cultures, how things are viewed in their part of the world. All these things have helped people to think differently."

The anthology also features short films by Halitha Shameem, Balaji Mohan, Surya Krishna and Richard Anthony. The five segments on themes of love, hope, resilience and humanity are all set in the second lockdown imposed last year to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nadiya Moidu made her debut in the Malayalam film Nokkethadhoorathu Kannum Nattu (1984) alongside Mohanlal and Padmini for which she won the Filmfare award for Best Actress in Malayalam. She has been in the industry for close to 40 years and has worked in Tamil and Telugu cinema as well. Her latest film is Drushyam 2 (2021).
