Marathi actress and filmmaker Kranti Redkar is returning to the director's chair after six years with Rainbow. The film will star Sonalee Kulkarni, Prasad Oak, Urmilla Kothare and Rishi Saxena.

Redkar, who has been active in the Marathi film industry for nearly two decades and is married to controversial Narcotics Control Bureau officer Sameer Wankhede, made her directorial debut in 2015 with Kaakan, which stars Jitendra Joshi and Kothare.

Rainbow will depict the colourful nature of relationships today. Speaking about her return to direction, Redkar said, "After Kaakan, the audience had high expectations from me, so I wanted to make a movie with a great story. First I wrote the story of the film and then I got the cast. They are not just good friends of mine, they are also very good artistes. That’s why I’m excited to work with them. I'm sure the audience will love this movie."

Rainbow is being produced by Akshay Vilas Bardapurkar and Hridaya Banerjee under the Planet Marathi and Mangorange Productions banners.

Speaking of their decision to back the film, Bardapurkar said, "I have seen Kranti's work as an actress. She has also directed a great film before. I am happy that she is directing Rainbow. The movie has a strong cast. Because of the strong cast and excellent director, the audience will love to see this film on the big screen."
