Mahesh Manjrekar gets rid of Nay Varanbhaat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha's controversial scenes, apologizes for hurting sentiments

Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar has announced that he has removed a few problematic scenes from the final print of his upcoming Marathi crime drama Nay Varanbhaat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha. Earlier in the day, the makers of the film revealed that its controversial trailer had been taken down after the National Commission for Women (NCB) wrote to the Union information and broadcasting ministry and asked it to certify the clip.  

The movie, which is set to be released tomorrow, has come under scrutiny for its graphic depiction of sex and violence and has received a fair bit of hate online.

Apologizing for hurting the sentiments of the audience, Manjrekar said in a press note, “We have removed the objectionable scenes not only from the trailer but also from the movie itself. Despite getting an adult certificate, we have removed visuals that have hurt the sentiments of viewers or can cause them problems in the future.” 

Manjrekar said the makers have always maintained that the film is only meant for adults. “We have ensured that people under the age of 18 don’t come for the film. We have specifically mentioned that only those who can tolerate such harsh truth and the seriousness of the content should watch the film. We have also said that the subject of the film is heavy and it is not like other films," the statement read.

It also read, “The film shows the harsh situation of the city of Mumbai and the subsequent terror that took place three decades ago. But still, if there are people who are unable to tolerate or watch such sequences, we have deleted those visuals.” 

The film stars Prem Dharmadhikari and Varad Nagwekar, who play amoral teenagers on the path of crime. The adult cast includes Chhaya Kadam, Shashank Shende, Kashmera Shah, Umesh Jagtap and Ganesh Yadav.
