Looop Lapeta trailer: Taapsee Pannu races against time to save her errant boyfriend

In first-time filmmaker Aakash Bhatia’s upcoming Hindi film Looop Lapeta (2022), Taapsee Pannu’s character, Savi, races against time to save her errant boyfriend Satya (Tahir Raj Bhasin).

The two misfits have found each other despite all odds and she must find a way for them to survive the mess he’s dragged them both into.

This remake of Run Lola Run (1998), which starred Franka Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu, has a frantic, loopy (forgive the wordplay) energy and is set in dingy locales. Satya has been tasked with handing out Rs50 lakh on behalf of Dibyendu Bhattacharya’s mobster character. He gambles away the cash instead and has to rely on Savi’s help to get him out of this fix.

Savi also finds out every time something goes very wrong, the events seem to reset themselves to the beginning when she receives Satya’s call. She comes across several unsympathetic associates and has to figure out a way in just 50 minutes for them to have a happy ending.

The style of the film is comically heightened, with odd camera angles and sped-up action, to indicate the dilemma Savi and Satya are in. The original being made over two decades ago, it will be interesting to see how the remake updates the material.

Shreya Dhanwanthary, who is also part of the cast, is yet to make an appearance. The film has been written by Dr Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Aakash Bhatia and Arnav Vepa Nanduri.

Produced by Sony Pictures Films India and Ellipsis Entertainment along with Aayush Maheshwari, Looop Lapeta is due to be released on Netflix on 4 February.
