Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi will star alongside each other for the first time in a film titled Selfiee.
The movie, which will be directed by Raj Mehta, is being produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Magic Frames.
The film is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam comedy-drama Driving Licence (2019). Directed by Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr, the original film starred Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
The makers have announced the film via an entertaining video where Akshay is seen playing the banjo in a Mumbai bus depot surrounded by a group of men. Soon, Hashmi arrives, shakes a leg with Akshay and takes a selfie with him.
Driving Licence revolves around a motor vehicle inspector (Suraj) and a Malayalam film star (Prithviraj). It seems like Akshay will be playing the celebrity in Selfiee.
A statement from the makers read, “The audience is in for a uniquely crafted story that takes them on a drama-filled hilarious break. Carrying forward the legacy of contemporary storytelling and driving Hindi cinema with a diverse set of talent and genre of stories, we are hopeful that with Selfiee the audience will be able to appreciate this light-hearted film (sic).”
Mehta had teamed up with Akshay and Johar for his last release, Good Newwz (2019). He also has comedy-drama Jugjugg Jeeyo in the pipeline. He had also directed one segment in Netflix's anthology Ajeeb Daastaans (2021).
Selfiee will go on the floors soon.
