Actor-producer Ramesh Babu died of complications arising out of liver issues on Sunday. The son of veteran Telugu superstar Krishna and elder brother of Mahesh Babu, he was 56 years old.

Ramesh Babu was admitted to AIG Hospitals on Saturday night in an unconscious state. The family put out a statement asking well-wishers to not crowd their residence owing to COVID protocols.

Ramesh Babu began his career at the age of 12. His first film as a solo lead was Samraat (1987). He retired from acting in 1997 to turn producer and went on to back Mahesh Babu's films Arjun (2004) and Athidhi (2007).

Mahesh Babu, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, bid his sibling farewell with the following message:

You have been my inspiration
You have been my strength
You have been my courage
You have been my everything
If not for you, I would not have been half the man I am today. Thank you for everything you've done for me.
Now just rest...rest...
In this life and if at all I have another, you’ll always be my 'Annaya'
Love you forever and ever and ever.

Ramesh Babu's demise was mourned by several senior members of the Telugu film industry including Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Ram Charan and Akkineni Nagarjuna.
