Pawankhind song ‘Raja Aala’: Santosh Juvekar celebrates Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in this foot-tapping number

The tune, which has been composed by Devdutta Manisha Baji, features vocals by Avadhoot Gupte.

Santosh Juvekar and Chinmay Mandlekar in Pawankhind

About a decade ago, Santosh Juvekar frequently starred in mainstream Marathi films. But for the past few years, he has been seen only in the digital and indie space.

But he is now back in a mainstream Marathi movie, albeit in a song in Digpal Lanjekar’s historical drama Pawankhind. The track ‘Raja Aala’ celebrates the military prowess of Maratha emperor Shivaji (Chinmay Mandlekar).

Juvekar and Mandlekar played bitter rivals in Avadhoot Gupte’s Morya (2011) more than a decade ago. But they are on the same side in this number. The track sees the former lavishing praise on the latter and displaying fine dance moves. Interestingly, the track features the energetic vocals of Gupte.

The lyrics, written by Lanjekar himself, are deep and rustic. Devdutta Manisha Baji’s music is melodious and fast-paced.

Mandlekar has also played Shivaji in previous films in Lanjekar’s Maratha history universe, Farzand (2018) and Fatteshikast (2019). He is impressive and believable as the icon. In this particular track, he is every inch a king but at the same time appears humble.

Pawankhind will be released in theatres on 18 February.
