The health of veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who has been in the hospital for almost a month, deteriorated on Saturday.

The 92-year-old's doctor has stated that the singer, who is on the ventilator, is under aggressive therapy and tolerating the procedures well.

Mangeshkar was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital almost a month ago after testing positive for COVID-19.

Dr Pratit Samdani, who is treating the legend, was quoted by the news agency Asian News International (ANI) as saying, “Singer Lata Mangeshkar is in the ICU ward. She continues to be under aggressive therapy and is tolerating the procedures well at this moment.”

A few hours prior, the news agency had put out a tweet quoting Dr Samdani as saying that the singer's condition was critical. “Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar's health condition has deteriorated again, she is critical. She is on a ventilator. She is still in ICU and will remain under the observation of doctors,” he said.

Later in the day, Mangeshkar's sister Asha Bhosle told ANI, after visiting her sibling in the hospital, that doctors were of the opinion that she was stable.

Cinestaan attempted to contact Dr Samdani, but he was unavailable for comment.

At the end of last month, the doctor said the singer's condition had improved and that she had been taken off the ventilator.

Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital on 9 January. Despite the singer experiencing only mild COVID-19 symptoms, she was kept in the ICU as a precautionary measure. She later started suffering from pneumonia.
