The Marathi and Hindi film industries suffered a loss yesterday with the death of veteran actor Ramesh Deo of a heart attack at the age of 93.
Actor Shashank Shende recalled that he had grown up watching Ramesh Deo's movies. He was speaking at the promotions of his upcoming movie Soyrik, which also stars Nitin Chavan, Manasi Bhavalkar, Chhaya Kadam and Kishore Kadam.
“In Marathi, we have never had such a good-looking actor," Shende said. "There is no other actor from Marathi cinema who went on to play such roles in Hindi, both as a hero and a villain. Later there were few others from Marathi who went to Hindi. But Ramesh Deo is the only one with such a personality and looks,”
The actor also shared an old memory related to the late star. “I was very young when I saw Ramesh Deo’s play Lagnachi Bedi. I remember I was holding my father’s finger and went. He used to play Dr Kanchan in the play,” he said.
“Then I started knowing him and the family because of Ajinkya [Deo, his son] sir. They are such a sweet family.”
Ramesh Deo acted in over 250 films in Marathi and Hindi in a career spanning seven decades.
